Only one week of voting left for public to decide best Solent Design!
A public award is up for grabs in the Solent Quality Places Awards 2019.
Over the past few months, judges have whittled down the entries to a shortlist of 5 potentially award winning schemes from the Solent region; The Hotwalls Studios, Portsmouth; the Gilbert White Museum, Selbourne; Knowle Lane housing at Fair Oak and Westquay South and the Cultural Quarter, Guildhall Square in Southampton.
While the overall winner of the ‘Quality Place Award’ will be decided by judges, the public has the chance to pick the winner of the ‘People’s Choice Award’. Voting for the People’s Choice is open and the public can choose their favourite scheme online simply by clicking on the button next to your favourite scheme. There is only a week left until voting closes on 4th October. All designs can be found at www.solentqualityplaceawrds.org.uk,
Councillor Seán Woodward, Chairman of Partnership for South Hampshire (PfSH), which has been involved in the awards since their inception, says: “The public vote is as just as important as our judges’ decision. After all, people live and work in these places and spaces and so their decision is vital in choosing the best design and the place which most inspires them.”
The Solent Quality Place Awards are about raising awareness, improving design quality and demonstrating the best in place-making.
Chair of the Quality Places Practitioners Group which is organising the event, Charlotte Webb, explained: ‘The Awards are not just about highlighting the best in individual architecture, landscape architecture or engineering excellence, but are about recognising a development that makes a contribution to improving the economic, social, cultural and environmental life of those who live, work, learn and relax within the Solent region’.
Charlotte added: “There are some well-known schemes within this year’s shortlist and we hope members of the public who use them will get behind their favourites and vote online. It’s a unique opportunity for people to have their say on which are the best developments in the Solent.”
