Join author Mark Barton for a talk that dives into the stories of the people behind the Royal Navy’s Engineering Branch. Discover the personal accounts of naval engineers whose heroic actions shaped history, from gallantry awards to acts of bravery in conflicts like the Crimean War.
Based on Mark’s recently published book, Fanning the Coals and Forging the Weapons: A History of the Engineering Branch of the Royal Navy, this talk is a celebration of those unsung heroes that made a difference, their achievements and the human side of naval history. It’s about people and their stories, not just the engineering.
Mark Barton served for a full commission in the Royal Navy as a Marine Engineer Officer, recently retiring as a Commander after nearly 35 years. His book will be available to buy on the evening.
