How Portsmouth gained and lost its Nervi!
Talk by Michael Underwood BArch MSc
In the early 1950s British architects knew little of Italian engineer and architect Pier Luigi Nervi. In the 1960s he won two Gold Medals – RIBA (1960), Institute of Structural Engineers (1968).
This is a remarkable architectural tale of how John Seely and Paul Paget, two British architects, brought Nervi to Portsmouth Cathedral. Michael is founder of HGP Conservation, retired Senior Lecturer in Historic Building Conservation, University of Portsmouth School of Architecture.
