Portsmouth has been awarded £214,515 in funding from the government’s Emergency Active Travel Fund to create temporary schemes to enable social distancing while walking and cycling.

These schemes are monitored to ensure they are work well for residents and businesses. To create a safe space for walking and cycling we are proposing to create a cycle route along Elm Grove and Kings Road. The route will be separated from vehicles where possible and aims to encourage new cyclists to use the route and by reducing the level of vehicles. We hope this will also create a more welcoming environment for visitors, this scheme is also intended to support the growth of local businesses.

The proposed scheme for the temporary cycle lane on Elm Grove and Kings Road complements the council’s wider aspirations for changing the way that people travel along these roads and addresses the high accident record along the route. View the further information below for the proposed designs and more details on the scheme.
